La Cañada Elementary reopened for our hybrid students in three phases. Like other schools in California, we shifted to 100% distance learning in March of 2020, and we started the 2020/21 school year in the same way. Some families opted to remain in Virtual Learning Academies for the entire school year, and the rest of our families started with distance learning with the intent to return to Hybrid learning on campus once it was safe to do so. All classes were set up for a possible return. Specifically, cohorts were placed in either an AM or a PM class, and cohort sizes were limited to 15 students or less.
Phase One: LCUSD received a TK - 2nd Grade Waiver to bring back our youngest learners. TK - 2nd-grade hybrid students returned in November of 2020.
Phase Two: 3rd-grade hybrid students returned in February of 2021.
Phase Three: 4th - 6th-grade hybrid students returned in March of 2021.
Each reopening phase was accompanied by a Return to Campus newsletter. These newsletters can be accessed here.
